Notable Dividend Increases: November 2012
There were a few good dividend increases in the month of November and 1 notable dividend decrease.
AT&T Inc (T) – AT&T is a provider of telecommunications service operating worldwide. They recently increased their dividend from $0.44 to $0.45 quarterly for a 2.28% increase. T closed Friday November 30, 2012 with a market price of $34.13 which gives them a current dividend yield of 5.28%. AT&T has increased their dividend annually for the past 29 years. While I’d generally prefer a higher increase, AT&T is a long established blue chip company with a long history of dividend increases and a decent sized current yield.
Emerson Electric Co. (EMR) - Emerson designs and supplies product technology and delivers engineering solutions and services in a range of industrial, commercial and consumer markets. They recently increased their quarterly dividend from $0.40 to $0.41 for an increase of 2.5%. EMR closed Friday November 30, 2012 with a market price of $50.23 giving them a current dividend yield of 3.27%. EMR has increased their dividend for 56 consecutive years. Once again not as high of a dividend increase as I’d prefer but EMR has a long reputation of dividend increases dating back over half a century.
Hormel Foods Corp (HRL) - Hormel is involved in the production and marketing of a variety of food and meat products. Hormel recently increased their quarterly dividend from $0.15 to $0.17 per share for an increase of 13.34%. HRL closed Friday November 30, 2012 with a market price of $31.01 which gives them a current dividend yield of 2.2%. HRL has had 47 years of dividend growth.
Sysco Corp (SYY) - Sysco is a distributor of food and food related products to the food service industry. Sysco had a dividend increase from $0.27 to $0.28 per quarter for a 3.71% dividend growth. Sysco closed Friday November 30, 2012 with a market price of $31.65 which gives them a current dividend yield of 3.54%. SYY has increased their dividend for 43 consecutive years.
Union Pacific Corp (UNP) - Union Pacific operates a railroad linking 23 states in the western United States. Union Pacific recently had a dividend increase from $0.60 to $0.69 quarterly per share. This is an increase of 15%. UNP closed Friday November 30, 2012 with a market price of $122.78. This gives UNP a currently dividend yield of 2.25%. UNP has increased their dividend annually for the past 7 years.
Avon Products, Inc. (AVP) - Avon unfortunately had a dividend decrease in November from $0.23 to $0.06 per quarter for a decrease of 74%. Previously Avon had increased it’s dividend annually for 22 years in a row. This is a disappointment for dividend growth investors owning Avon. Avon is a manufacturer and marketer of beauty products. One of my rules is to sell a stock when companies decrease their dividend.
